The Best Web Templates Available Today

77 Comments

Most web designers will tell you that it is not easy to select web templates. Not with the large number of templates that are available in the market today making finding the best as difficult as sorting through loads of hay. However, you do not need to be caught up in the hassle of finding the best templates. The following are some of the best:

Basic landing: Released on February 22nd, 201, basic landing templates are simple, single and two-column templates layout that are made for one-paged websites such as landing pages and presentations. The templates feature a width measurement of 760 px with the option of adjusting the size of the format. These types of templates are available in other versions: the basic landing (duo), which you can easily download on the internet. The templates do not feature navigation menus though this does not decrease their efficiency.

Variant light: Unlike basic landing, variant light web templates are 3 column templates that feature more up-to-date layouts and inverted color schemes. Unlike basic landing templates, these types of variant lights have navigation menu options in the form of vertical side bar menu and horizontal; header menus. In order to display the header image, these types of templates come with ordinary image elements encoded in the HTML. They feature a width of about 980px though you can always modify these just like with the basic landing templates.

Variant artists web templates: Released on February 23rd, 2011, these types of templates are available in downloadable alternate versions of variant artist (light). The templates feature a light-on-dark design that comprises two/three/four columns. Other versions, which you can also download on the internet, feature inverted colors.

Variant note web templates: Variant note templates come in a file size of about 854 Kb. The templates versions were released on March 9th, 2011 and usually feature full-width and standard two-columns. The templates are usually generated by a custom font and utilize CSS3 text shadows. They also feature an easy customization that enables insertion of logotypes. They come with source files for all images.

Basic minimal: Released on 2nd March, 2011, basic minimal templates are available in the alternative version form of Basic Minimal (alt). The templates feature simple and minimalistic 2 column layouts.  They are automatic as the image background can be used to exhibit another images as a third column. The templates use CSS3 and XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS3.You can find alternate versions on downloadable formats.

The team worked hard to “learn a lot and ask good questions.” We did enjoy being together, so it was not all painful! We are particularly focused on choosing a new platform for our planned revamped website, choosing software for collaboration, both within our staff teams and among staff, lay leaders and constituents, and redsigning how we use technology to connect more closely with congregations and their leaders, and to connect our congregations to each other. We are also hoping to revise our web templates for congregational websites. So much to do!!

Web design is a marketable skill, but it is much more than that. Through this medium, you can reposition yourself from vendor to author, creating content and designing it your way. You can enrich your life; the lives of others; and make your mark on the medium – perhaps on your generation. All this and more is possible, when you take your graphic design talent to the Web.

What do designers do? Designers organize information, shape identities, and create memorable experiences that entertain while communicating. Increasingly, designers are performing these tasks on the World Wide Web (the Web, to its friends).

Web designing is a general term that decribes creating a web page or web pages.

HTML..means HyperTextMarkupLanguage. Html is a web design tool. Html is used to design web pages. There are several ways to design web pages and html is one of them.

Something like this can get you started:

<?php
mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "password") or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("database");
$myVar = "Hello World!";
$sql = "INSERT INTO (fieldname) values($myVar)";
$result = mysql_query($sql);
if($result) {
echo "Worked";
} else {
die (mysql_error());
}

If you know almost nothing, then you probably want to stick with some form of template. By “promotional” I’m assuming you mean you want a couple static pages describing who you are and what you do… More like a business website than a blog. If so, do a Google search for “business website templates.”

There are many uses, one of them is when you want to do instant search. There is no point in having the browser go to your server so you can act as a proxy for a query.Also, you could add search functionality without having to touch your backend logic (only your web templates). This may seem minor if you are in control of the whole web app, but it matters for larger organizations where it’s easier to change a template than to deploy code.

It easy to get in over your head when making web pages. Only do it if you feel comfortable enought to make all that stuff. That is a lot coding to do, not to mention teaching the person running the site how it works.

Most people prefer it if you present one or two of your best or most problematic shots for critique. otherwise it’s a lot of writing, etc. and /r/webdesign is better for a critique of a web design. Loud autoplaying sound is generally considered annoying, irritating, and bad taste. Your photography should be able to stand on its own without needing music to sell it. Harsh, I know. Best question is *Which market is this portfolio for?* *Does it sell correctly to that market?*

1) Most likely your web host has you on a server with WAMP already installed. The HTML editors you have will be enough to publish your website. However, Frontpage is one you should avoid using since Microsoft no longer develops it or supports it and most web host companies are phasing it out. Nvu is also discontinued so you may want to steer clear of using that one as well. Kompozer is a recent development from Nvu and should work for what you need although Dreamweaver is about the best one out there. I'll provide you with a url for a tutorial on defining a site in Dreamweaver MX, your first step.

2) You don't change the localhost. localhost is a reserved name meaning 'my computer'. Posting a second url for you below to help you understand more about localhost.

Sounds like the gif animation is a converted video image. Using ANY large image formats will cause your pages to take forever to load. People are still on Dial-up and DSL.

There is no loss of quality reducing the gif image. It supports only 256 colors anyway. The LENGTH (number of frames) of the gif is the only factor. This can be edited to shorten the overall playing time which will reduce the file size.

The picture IS NOT in the CSS. CSS is for laying out the presenation of your pages and only calls images using correct CSS coding. This can be changed at anytime by correcting the path to images/videos/animation, etc..

For flash or any other media type file, you MUST have the proper MEDIA Player code. Whether controls show or not can be controlled by the media player code.

You can add jpg/gif or other formats to a flash file as you already know. There is one site that has a flash editor for making web pages:

Now that you've got your domain name you'll need to get it hosted (you can use Godaddy for that too), and then you can use any of the TONS of webbuilding software packages out there to make your site.

I personally write everything from scratch, but I'm a web designer for a living, so if you'd like something easier there's many many options.

Most of them, however do cost money. I haven't used a web template since about 1997 so I don't know what's available now for that sort of thing, but I do know that a lot of people like Dreamweaver and Site Spinner.

Being that I write from scratch with FTP and an open source text editor though I'm not familiar with pricing.

Anyhoo… about css. Basically it stands for "cascading style sheets" and if you know how to use them they are for styling your page.

This site:

has some great tutorials on how to use HTML and CSS.

Good luck!

This is a tall order mate, seeing the sample website http://www.reed.co.uk it's a site with data base and that costs a lot of money… probably around US$3k min. but if you just need the design that would be cheaper, may less than 500 for the lay out…

You can either hire freelancers which is cheaper or go to a more stable web development company more expensive but it's a one stop shop.

I hope this helps,

yea i no what you mean! I just got one of those wooden sculpture looking things of a person that you can move which ever way you want and draw it. I used that to get the shape right for my person and i even designed clothes to put on it. Kind of like a mini model:] haha. I know pottery barn has some big manakin type things that you could take a look at. barnes and Noble carries the wooden guy or maybe an art store would too. Good luck with your designing!

hey Webs.com allows you to make websites via ur own html . just go to signup there you will find a option HTML- mode only . There you can use html .

03.29.11

That is quite a large website and is probably powered by a custom CMS system. That including the application features would be quite costly depending on the scope of the project. For a smaller version of Reed to 100 pages with only design and not application development, ecommerce integration, it should be 3k to 4k

03.29.11

Pros : Easy and fast. You don't need to know any knowledge about web language (well, sometimes you'll need to know it though).

Cons : Sometimes it cost too much. The designer will put (generally) its logo in the end of the design or on the web code. If you want to change something such the colors or the text, you just can't because they are fixed, if you change them, you'll screw the whole template.

The easiest way for a novice to build a web site is to start with a web template. Web Templates can be customized and you can use the layout but swap the graphics etc…. this will get you comfortable with basic HTML design and an HTML editor (like Dreamweaver).

Here are some resources for free or inexpensive templates that are easy to edit and manage.

HTML website templates can significantly ease the burden of designing and creating websites by providing webmasters with a ready-made web layout, structure, basic graphics, and color scheme.

The templates can generally be edited and customized with any HTML editor. The biggest advantage for webmasters using ready-made templates is the amount of time that can be saved.

The New York School of Interior Design is considered to be one of the best interior design schools in New York, if not the US. The program and quality of education in this school is similar to some of the best, but the NYSID teaches its students to importance of building client relationships at such an early age, which is essential in providing students an idea on how to conduct their business. Also, the students will be taught and trained by some of the best and most highly-regarded designers in the world, which guarantees that students will most likely pick up more than a thing or two from them. Lastly, the NYSID dedicates its program on the sustainable movement in which it teaches students on how to build green and eco-friendly interior design.

Scripts refer to one of 2 things: server-side scripting, and/or client-side scripting.
Examples of server side scripting include ASP, PHP, JSP, etc. Examples of client side scripting include Javascript, VBscripts, etc.

Scripts on both sides can build a web page.

Web templates are basically web pages that are created as "fill in the blank" type of things where the server or client side script replaces certain items with what it has been told to replace them with.

Here's an example of a client side script that dynamically changes a web page depending upon the HTML code you put into it. You'll have to save it as a file with an extension of ".htm" on your computer, and view it in your favorite browser.

Hello
I am a web designer and yes i do sometimes use a templates to a degree, I have a large selection and they choose a style and i build it, there is a large amount of customising needed to make it "not look like a template" though and there is alot of work to do with SEO to get it findable online as well, you cant just use a template and leave it at that, the last thing you want is someone finding a near exact copyof their site with someone else's site.

03.29.11

Being certificated has proven to be of little value in practice.

They also seam to charge a smaller furtune ($8550 US) for something you can learn for free online, they do however mention hand-coding which is a good sign.

After i've reviewed their "Training Program", i must recommend that you leave it alone. They have not mentioned much about JavaScript / AJAX, or server-side programming such as PHP / MySQL.

They also seam to teach a lot of obsolate stuff, how to layout your pages using tables for instance. Its stuff like that you can figure out simply by doing a search on google. Why teach bad design practices?

Learning HTML + CSS shouldnt take longer then a few days, simply by following tutorials online, the same could be said about obsolate tools as dreamweaver, which some web designers for some reason insist on using.

I've never seen any useful point with WYSIWYG tools, and i've yet to encounter the tool to replace good old hand-coding, however there are many nice hand-coding editors, which make things easier.

You should know, that few recognized certificates exists, and even more are outdated and obsolate. They have stated on their website that they will be teaching XHTML, well thats rather ridiculous considering the difference between html and xhtml today is minimal. xhtml isn't exactly what i would chose for new sites, since the specification isn't fully supported by browsers, and since HTML 4.01 Strict performs just as well.

I'm waiting for HTML 5 and XHTML 2.0, at that point i'll decide if xhtml actually is better, but right now it seams ridiculous to chose xhtml just to add extra slashes to img tags and meta tags, not to mention br tags.

Hi! What you need is an SEO expert that will help your site increase in its visibility thus allowing it to achieve a higher rank on the search engine. SEO actually drive more traffics to your site.

03.29.11

You are just starting out so let me give you the most important advice. DO NOT charge $50 for a website. Maybe every now and then for a sale or something for some simple site. But do not make it your standard price. Web designers command $300 and up for small websites. Your hourly if you go that route should be between $30 and $50 per hour.

You should let the customer register their domain. Or if they have no clue about anything web related then offer to do it for them. You will also need Paypal for your payments. Another good merchant is Alert Pay which is similar to Paypal. Either way you need to verify the account in order to be legitimate and be able to get the money into your hands.

03.29.11

Yes and no.

It depends on what you're actually trying to do with the website.

If you're trying to make a user-driven website or something where the community would have a high level of interaction with the website, then you're going to want to create your own.

If you're just trying to deliver content to whatever audience may be viewing the website, then theres nothing wrong with a pre-made template.

The only reason I'd recommend not using a template is because you know the inside and out of anything you design. You'd know how to fix any/all problems and wouldn't have to worry about anything going wrong.

Good luck!

Lot of questions in one sentence!
- A "template" is a pre-designed website to which you have "just" to change the contents. Reserved to amateurs who do not have any graphic skills.
- "Web Development" is "making the design to work", that is CODING.
- "Site Design" or "Web Design": is an artist work to prepare a page/website, the way it will "look"… but does not work! You need the developer (above) to make it work.
- CMS: Content Management System. A kind of Integrated Development Environment that allows unskilled people to chancge the contents of their site themselves. Unfortunately, all CMS are written in complex languages such as Php, ASP, and require that knowledge to be used properly – which means that if you have the skills, you don't need them!!!
These CMS are often offered to "clients" as a website feature (so the client can update his website without the need of the coder. The problem? They are way TOO complex for the clients and are (nearly) never used by the client (or used the first month and then forgotten)
A waste of time, really!
A proper CMS is developped by professionals to fullfill the requirements of the client… and nothing else!
- e-commerce: many scripts available, but ALL too complex: they contain too many features that you do not need. Some of them are 20Meg in size, and the user only makes calls to a few functions. A HUGE overhead for nothing.
A proper e-commerce can be written in a few Kb of code by any professional (and that will be EXACTLY what the client needs).

Webtemplates are written in scripting languages like php, javascript, etc.
Php is server side whereas javascript is client side. Webtemplates are prdefined syntax,design and structure that is processed at server and we get the processed output on our browser client or any application we might be using to connect to a server.
For example :
Lets say X loops through strings like : Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed etc..
and a php script states
<?php
loop
{
echo "<b>Today is $x</b>"
}
?>
when this page is processed at server or rather parsed by server gives us output on the webpage
Today is Sun.
Today is Mon.

If u rightclick the webpage to check the scripting used, u wont see anything, html code will look like :
<b>today is sunday</b>
<b>today is monday</b>
Only client side scripts can be checked by viewing source.

This is a very good read to understand how webtemplate, template engine, database and client window interact with each other.

Hello my friend,
Don't really know what you mean by "website template"
program, but I CAN recommend to you a good content management system or CMS (for web sites it creates the whole thing).

Now the best one for me is Drupal. But it requires one to know a little PHP programming.

If you don't know any of that, try Joomla – it is really user friendly and there are alot of "TEMPLATES" premade for you.

Now as to the cost – both of them are FREE.

If you need help "templating" with Drupal or Joomla you can find alot of experts that will create a custom template for you on the website forums for some $ as well.

You need to use media (blank CDs/DVDs) that are LightScribe media (have a special top surface that can be burned with your light scribe drive). You burn the data/music/etc. onto the bottom side of the CD, just like you normally would. Then you take the CD, flip it over and put it in the drive up-side-down. You then use your LightScribe software to burn an image into the top surface. Your drive probably came with some software, but if not, you can find some at (there are 2 programs there: SimpleLabler and TemplateLabler). There are also "templates" you can download and add to your software. These are 469×469 pixel JPEG or PNG files. You can also search Yahoo for LightScribe Templates and turn up some more (the U.K. Lightscribe web site has links to some more templates you can download, etc. – I want to say is the URL – I think it is also on Wikipedia's article on LightScribe IIRC). SimpleLabler comes with a 'blank' template. You can edit it with MS-Paint, and copy & paste in various images. I found a few fonts that have DVD/CD logos, fonts that have Movie logos (PG, PG-13, etc.).

Burning the top surface and the bottom surface are totally unrelated. I've burned a CD in a Mac, and burned the LightScribe image on a PC. I've recored a DVD on a DVD Recorder (like a VCR) and then burned the LightScribe surface on my PC.

You can burn the top surface multiple times. You can always turn a spot on the top black, but not white. People sometimes burn the same image twice to darken it. I've been known to burn an image on a CD, and then use a different template to put a CD logo on some "unprinted" part of the disc. The disc has some marks on it that the drive can read to "line up" the image.

I have a MySpace layout "template" that you can download at
Please open it with WordPad (Not WORD or NOTEPAD).
[Start> Run> type in "WordPad"]

A copule of things you should know:
-All the pictures for the layout need to be hosted on the internet.
I reccommend signing up for Photobucket.

-All the colors need to be in Hexdecimal format. For a color chart

Sorry if you already knew that.
Good Luck!
Lemme know how it goes tailorj2006ATyahooDOTcom

When you purchase a template there is likely to be a license which tell you the limitations of what you can or cannot do. The point of a template is to make it easier for you.

Well, learning HTML and CSS (or at least the BASICS as a minimum) is pretty important when developing a website. These two come hand in hand, and if you know how they work then you will have a much easier time and more fun doing this project.

I would suggest doing a quick runthrough first here at this FREE programming website… it has helped me very much.

The easiest website I can think of to get started with a project like this with little to no knowledge of the web design concept would be wordpress. Go to http://www.wordpress.org and take a look around, it is 100% free and very customizable, and you will find tons of free website templates for it if you search "free wordpress templates" in google. It will take a little getting used to, but it is very very very easy to get the hang of things, since everything is basically programmed for you.

Otherwise, here is a list of hundreds of free web hosting websites, it has a huge list and descriptions.

Once you do this, I would suggest googling "free website layouts" or "free website templates", or "free css templates" … This will return a list of free, premade websites for you to choose from and to use on your website.

About 50 feet, generally. It depends on what model you have. I know that my neighbor, from across the street, actually, can access my Linksys router, and that's at least 50 feet; she tells me the connection isn't so great, though. The model I purchaes wasn't particularly expensive, and I think it should be rather standard.

I have found that walls don't pose much of a problem; floors and ceilings, however, are a different matter, and access in the basement is quite dreadful. However, I can use my laptop in the backyard and it works fine.

You can register a domain for your website for about $10 a year. Check out http://www.register.com or google "buy a domain" for more information on that.

As for the web page(s) itself, if you're planning to build it yourself, there are some sites out there that offer templates. Try googling "restaurant web page templates" for some ideas. There are also cool tools out there that can help you to build pages if you don't know any HTML, CSS, javascript, etc. You can google "web page creators" or "web page creation tools" for more.

If you want to hire someone else to do it, try googling "custom web design". It sounds like your page will be relatively simple so you might be able to find someone to do it dirt cheap, just make sure you price a few out to make sure you're not getting ripped off.

Good luck with your site!

Not that I know of but if you know anyone else who it married recently and may have had one, its probably still up. Or you can just search a common name like John baker or something in the wedding website search box and you might be able to find a completed one

Hi

It all depends how much time you have to learn, I personaly found Joomla or Worpress to be the best as they are open source and there are many free templates for these.

However if you are looking for a cheap but good web design company then i can recommend . They charge £10 per month for an information type website and £20 for a retail type website and everything is included in the package.

if you are in the USA then try

babar
